Dr. Sally Adebamowo Appointed Interim Co-Leader of Population Sciences at the Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center

The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) has officially announced Dr. Sally Adebamowo as the interim co-leader of its Population Sciences Program. Her appointment, confirmed by the Executive Scientific Advisory Committee (ESAC) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), places her in a pivotal role to advance research aimed at understanding and mitigating cancer-related risks, behaviors, and outcomes.

The Population Sciences Program at UMGCCC brings together experts from diverse fields to examine cancer’s complex origins, patient behaviors, and treatment outcomes. Dedicated to studying the broad social, biological, and environmental factors linked to cancer, the program’s ultimate mission is to transform research findings into actionable cancer prevention and control strategies. By identifying key risk factors and patterns, researchers within the program aim to create impactful interventions to reduce cancer incidence and improve patient well-being.

Dr. Adebamowo’s expertise in population health is anticipated to further enhance the program’s efforts. Her leadership comes at an opportune time, as the Population Sciences Program is deepening its research into cancer prevention and survivorship. This work aims to not only improve early detection and prevention but also to support long-term quality of life and better health outcomes for individuals affected by cancer.

The Center for Bioethics and Research extends its congratulations to Dr. Sally Adebamowo on her new role. We look forward to seeing her leadership drive meaningful advancements in cancer research, fostering improved patient care and significant progress in health outcomes.
